Lionsgate Keen to Make ‘Hunger Games’ Prequels

New York, Dec 9 (IANS) "The Hunger Games" movie franchise might see some prequels, a top official at Lionsgate has revealed.

Lionsgate vice chairman Michael Burns said at the UBS Global Media and Communications Conference here on Tuesday that the company is exploring the possibility of developing prequels to the movie franchise, reports aceshowbiz.com.

Burns compared "Hunger Games" to "Harry Potter" and said it will "live on and on and on".

He noted that the first two films, "The Hunger Games" and "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire" contained arenas, where the 74th and 75th versions of the 'Hunger Games' competitions took place, but the second two didn't.

"The one thing that kids say they missed (from the early 'Hunger Games' films) was there were no arenas," he said.

"If we went backwards, there obviously would be arenas."

Burns revealed that the studio also aimed to get more from its other big franchises, including "Twilight", "The Expendables" and "Saw", nodding towards reboot, prequels or sequels for each of them.

"The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 2" continues to lead the box office with around $525 million earned worldwide to date.
